Cork Midsummer Festival of the Senses will be held from the 12th to the 27th of June 2010.
The Cork Midsummer Festival of the Senses returns for a 16-day marathon celebrating the best the world has to offer in the arts. The festival promises to offer its audience a unique and unforgettable experience that must be seen to be believed. Guests can expect to be surprised at every turn, with off-site shows, unusual pieces of theatre, musical performances, cabaret, comedy, club nights, dance, and food. The festival’s philosophy is to push the boundaries of every art form it deals with, and because of this, you can expect your senses to be filled in ways they never have before.
Amongst the many performances that will be showing during the festival are:
Corcadorca’s Plasticine: This show brings contemporary Russian nightlife to the streets of Cork city. First shown in 2002, this piece of theatre has been highly accredited in the theatre world. The story centres on the life of a teenager, who travels to the gutter in an exposition of violence, anarchy, and corruption. A hard-hitting act, this show is strictly for adults only.
The Show Must Go On: The brainchild of Jerome Bel, renowned cult figure on the global dance scene, this show is unique and has to be seen at least once in a lifetime. With audience interaction, this is a provocative, subversive exhibition. Across the globe, this show has caused much controversy, and tends to divide audiences between the charmed and the outraged. Unlike anything you have seen before, prepare to be amazed.
Best Before: This performance blends a multi-player video game with traditional theatre. Each member of the audience is assigned their own avatar, which they then direct to interact with various stagehands. As the show progresses a virtual city, known as Best Land, is slowly created, with each audience member adding to it something unique.
The above are just a sample of what the 16-day festival has to offer. Book your
car hire at Cork Airport on arrival in the city, you’ll need transport to travel between all the different performances being shown throughout the city.
